From 24th to 26th October 2012, the 5th World Medical Tourism and Global Healthcare Congress —organised by the Medical Tourism Association— took place in Fort Lauderdale (Miami, Florida). As we are members of the Association, we chose Fort Lauderdale to commence with our venture and present our project internationally.
The World Medical Tourism and Global Healthcare Congress is the most important Medical Tourism event in the world. Last year, around 1,500 people from 90 different countries joined the congress.
The variety of people who attend this international congress every year includes American and international health insurance representatives, travel agencies, governmental representatives, hospitals, suppliers from different services, employers, and representatives from Departments of Health, Economic Development and Tourism.
Speakers from all over the world took part in the conferences so that everybody could learn more about this global industry. The Organization stressed the need for formal education: expert lecturers, authors and speakers were invited to attend and demonstrate their experience to the audience in different fields. Those present were informed about the latest developments and the direction in which International Medical Tourism Industry is heading.
We developed new ideas and talked about our experience and health solutions. Year after year, networking is considered to be the best part of the congress and this year was no exception.
We learnt about what other experienced countries are working on. We also had the opportunity to spend some time at the congress with Spanish representatives from Malaga, the Integral Aesthetic Clinic in Madrid and Mónica Sánchez (the Spanish Consul for Tourism Affairs) who attended the congress as a representative of Turespaña and to whom we give thanks for her support during our stay in Fortlauderdale.
