Stress - Health and Prevention

Got a spare moment to think about your health?

Immersed in a hectic way of life, most of us are unconscious of the amount of stress we are actually under and how it is affecting our health. Stress is the second most frequently reported work-related health problem in Europe and the World Health Organization is making it one of its priorities in the region, bringing attention to the seriousness of the condition and offering advice and recommendations.

The EU-OSHA (European Agency for Safety & Health at Work) carried out an extensive survey among workers in the European Union, publishing the results in 2013. The survey found that half of European workers feel that work-related stress is definitely present and common in their workplace.

Long meetings, competitive environment, deadlines for reaching objectives and development of projects, together with bad eating habits and a sedentary lifestyle, inevitably have an impact on employees’ health and, especially, in the case of those with more responsibility within a company.  At the same time, it is also known that people whose work involves frequent air travel are prone to fatigue and vascular disorders, owing to jet lag and pressure changes associated with flying.

If you suffer from anxiety, headaches, muscle pain and contractions, digestive problems, insomnia, hair loss, skin complaints, you may well be suffering the effects of chronic stress. Among the most common illnesses that chronic stress can bring are high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Fortunately, there are effective solutions for stress. However, the first step is to be conscious of the fact that your symptoms are stress-related and, subsequently, dedicate a little of your time to find the best ways to keep it at bay.

A few days away from your stressful environment is the ideal way to disconnect, relax, get a check-up done and the take the decision to start a new healthier lifestyle.
